Slendertone arm toners are suitable for all adults, but care is still needed. Don’t use our products if:
- You suffer from a heart problem or have electronic implants (pacemaker or defibrillator, for example).
- You’re pregnant.
- You suffer from cancer or epilepsy.
- You’re under medical supervision for cognitive dysfunction.
- You are connected to high-frequency surgical equipment.
Question: What does the toning sensation feel like?
Answer: When you increase toning intensity, you feel a mild pulsing sensation followed by a gradual tightening. The muscles should contract smoothly, hold in position for a few seconds and then gently relax again, just like they would during biceps and triceps exercises.
Question: Can electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) cause arm muscle soreness?
Answer: Like all workouts, you should expect some muscle soreness. Use a lower toning intensity if you’re experiencing excessive soreness in your biceps and triceps.
Question: Why is my skin red after a session?
Answer: Some redness is natural and fades soon after toning. If the redness is excessive simply lower the intensity. If the problem persists, get in touch with our customer care team.
Question: Toning is slightly uncomfortable. How can I boost my comfort levels?
Answer: Ensure that the gel pads are correctly positioned and firmly compressed on your skin. Pause the workout before making your adjustments. Check the intensity level too; turn it down and slowly increase the intensity throughout your training programme.
Question: How do I know when the gel pads need replacing?
Answer: First, adjust your toners to ensure correct, firm positioning. If the signal is still weak (even if your batteries are charged), it usually means that the pads’ adhesive properties are starting to wear. We recommend replacing these after 20-30 Slendertone sessions.
Question: Why won't my gel pads stick, even though they’re fairly new?
Answer: Ensure that the patterned grid-side is placed over the studs (the black side should be on the skin) and that you’ve removed their plastic covers. Before and after sessions, press the edges of each pad onto your arm toning garments to help minimise this in the future.
Question: What’s the difference between Slendertone and other muscle toners?
Answer: Our EMS technology and designs are clinically proven, patented and completely exclusive.
Question: Can I use Slendertone Arms after having a baby?
Answer: Yes, but seek approval from your doctor first.
Question: Can I use my Slendertone Arms during regular exercise?
Answer: Combining arms toning with regular exercise can deliver better results, because the muscles are working harder. Bodyweight exercises and light workouts are recommended. Make sure that you use an intensity slightly lower than what you usually use.
Question: What is the warranty period on my Slendertone Arms?
Answer: Slendertone Arms comes with a two-year warranty on electronic parts. If a fault develops, view our troubleshooting section or please get in touch with our customer care team.
Question: Why don’t I have a controller with my product?
Answer: Slendertone Arms can be purchased with or without a controller and charger. If you already own our Abs7 or Bottom toners, your controller can be used interchangeably with Slendertone Arms as well. If you need a controller, visit our shop so that you can start toning.
Question: How long does it take to charge the battery?
Answer: The controller should have enough power for one session but we recommend fully charging the battery before toning. This takes a minimum of 3 hours and should last for at least 5 sessions. If your battery gets low, the icon flashes.
Question: What do I need to work Slendertone Arms?
Answer: You need the toning armbands, handheld controller and charger, and one set of gel pads.
Setting up your arm toners
Question: How do I assemble my right and left arm toners correctly?
Answer: Follow these simple steps to start your arm toning journey (for men’s and women’s toners):
1. Lay your arm toners on a flat surface so that the square markings and metal studs are facing you.
2. Take the four pads out. On one side there is a grid pattern, while the other is plain black.
3. Remove the plastic covers from the patterned side and place the pads face down, completely covering the metal studs.
4. Take the covers off of the black side of the pads to expose their adhesive gel. Save these to protect your gel pads after each arms toning session.
5. For the men’s biceps/triceps toner position the right arm wing (R) around the tricep with the widest part nearest your elbow. Wrap the smaller oval section around the outside of your arm to the front and fasten the straps tightly. Repeat with the left arm (L).
6. For the women’s triceps toner, position the garment around the back of your upper arm, ensuring that you have the correct toner on each arm (the symbol should be nearest the elbow). Tighten the fit using the straps. Repeat on the other arm.
7. ‘Click’ the controller into place, but don’t force it in. Ensure that the pin connector is the right way around first.
Question: What happens if the pads aren’t placed grid-side down onto the studs?
Answer: The grid side distributes the EMS signals from the studs evenly and effectively. If this is done incorrectly, it triggers less effective EMS signal delivery and less comfort toning on higher intensities.
Question: What happens if I don’t take the protective plastic covers off the pads?
Answer: The pads send EMS signals to the muscles using a water-based, adhesive gel, so it’s essential to remove the cover for the product to function. Keep these covers handy to protect your pads after toning sessions.
Question: Can I move the arm toners up or down?
Answer. Yes, but ensure that the controller is not connected and the gel pads are unstuck from your skin before making any adjustments.
Question: What if I put the left/right toners on the wrong arms?
Answer: Correct placement ensures that you’re targeting the muscles effectively. Misplacement can also potentially cause discomfort.
Question: I’m ready to tone! How do I control my Slendertone Arms trainer?
Answer: After setting up your toners, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn on your controller. With both thumbs, press the intensity arrows up to increase intensity levels and down to decrease.
This automatically begins the timer for the toning programme. Pause this at any time by pressing the power button. To resume/stop toning, press it again, or hold down the button to switch off entirely.
We advise toning when seated until you get used to the sensation of the EMS contractions – it won’t take you long.
Question: What toning programmes does Slendertone Arms feature?
Answer: Arms includes 3 toning programmes which can be used with or without exercise and triceps and biceps workouts. Press the ‘P’ button to display these training programmes. You cannot change programmes during a session. First, you need to switch off the controller and then switch it on again.
Slendertone Arms also features ‘auto-progression’, which takes you through a clinically proven set of toning programme parameters for even better results. Auto-progress begins at programme 1. Simply follow the sessions as prompted on the screen.

It should be comfortable but challenging and gradually increased during each toning session. The table below illustrates how you could increase the intensity over a six-week toning plan. Set your own training targets and see how you do. You can always make adjustments along the way.

Question: How many sessions can I do in one week?
Answer: Try to complete at least 5 toning sessions per week, depending on your lifestyle or schedule and how much recovery your muscles require.
