How do I update the firmware on the Connect controller?

Slendertone Connect is the revolutionary abs belt which wirelessly tones and firms your abs via an app. Now, it’s available on Android smart devices as well as Apple.

If you have recently purchased Slendertone Connect Abs, your controller might already feature the latest firmware. This means that you should simply be able to sync your controller, connect and go!

If, however, you are experiencing problems pairing your controller with your Android smart device, follow the quick and easy steps below to update your firmware to the latest version.

Please note that the firmware update is performed via a desktop or laptop, not your smart device.

Why do I need to install a program on my desktop/laptop first to install my firmware?

Your Slendertone controller is a complex product that delivers EMS signals into the body.

For your peace of mind, this updater uses strict protocols to ensure that only we, the manufacturer, can ever alter the on-board firmware.

Why do I need to update the controller firmware?

Your Slendertone Connect Abs with its current software 1.69 works with iOS smart devices, however we are now making this available for Android users as well.

Our update 1.70 corrects the Bluetooth of the controller to enable this, making Connect compatible with both iOS and Android smart devices.

What does the firmware updater do?

The firmware updater installs new software onto the controller via your desktop or laptop using a secure link to Slendertone.

This ensures that your controller captures the most up-to-date version for use.

My software updater did not open on my PC?

Check you have completed the installation process. Follow the firmware update tutorial thoroughly, taking note of the administrator requirements. You will need administrator permissions to perform the update. If you continue to experience problems, please contact customer services in the support section of our website.

The update button did not unlock (turn blue) after connecting the controller to the PC?

Check all the connections are fixed firmly, ensure you are using the same USB lead supplied with your Slendertone product. Also, try unplugging and re-connecting a second time to check connection is made. If problem persists, contact Slendertone customer support in the contact us section.

How long does it take to perform the update?

Once you have downloaded the software and installed, the process takes up to 5 minutes. Once the update transfer has begun, wait until the on screen prompts tells you it has finished before you disconnect.

Do I need to pair my controller again with my original smart device to continue using?

Yes, as soon as you complete the firmware update, you will need to perform a new pairing whether it is with your new device, or the existing device. Either way, you will need to forget your Slendertone controller via the Bluetooth settings menu.

What will happen to my stored data and F.I.T points?

Nothing, you will not lose any data on your progress. You can continue from where you left off on your new smart device.

I cannot see my Slendertone Connect on my app or on my phone.

If you use the app on multiple Apple devices then you will have to re-pair the Controller each time you change between devices.

My toning session pauses every time I leave the App, receive a call or my screen goes into power saving mode.

Your toning session will pause when you leave the Slendertone app, receive a phone call or your screen goes into power save mode as a default safety feature.

You can enable “Allow uninterrupted toning” in the Settings section of the app.

The stimulation is not increasing as quickly as the toning intensity slider on the app.

As a precaution the stimulation will increase at a safe rate allowing your muscles to gradually become accustomed to the stimulation. If you continue to hold the slider the intensity will continue to increase until the target level is reached.

The app works on one device, but not on another.

Your non-functioning device may not be compatible. Only use the app on a compatible device. Check your device compatibility here.

If you have used the Controller with another smart device and then you return to the initial device you must forget the Controller in the app and in the iOS Bluetooth settings before pairing again.

My last session data is not available on the top of my Progress screen.

If you have not used your Slendertone Connect in the past six weeks, your last session data will have moved into your History.

Where can I find more progress data?

You can see your toning progress information in the Progress section within the app. We will also email you regularly with an update on your personal progress.

F.I.T. Score

What is the F.I.T. score?

The F.I.T. score is a weekly target to allow you to map your progress against your Connect plan.

The score you receive each week is based on the number of sessions you performed, the average intensity you used, and a toning power score derived from the Connect program you use. The toning power is a comparative measurement of how hard a particular treatment will work your abdominal muscles for a given session.

With each toning session you complete, you will be awarded F.I.T. points towards your weekly target.

It’s simple really: the more you tone and the higher you turn up the intensity during your toning sessions, the better your F.I.T. score will be (and the more bragging rights you earn!).

How is the F.I.T. score calculated?

After each toning session you will receive a summary of "F.I.T. points” earned during that session which are added to achieve your weekly goal.

F.I.T. points are based on a unique calculation of:

Frequency: number of toning sessions you completed

Intensity: stimulation level at which you use the toning session

Toning power score: difficulty of your current toning program

The F.I.T. score weekly summary is calculated by adding up the FIT points earned for each session performed during that week.

Why has my F.I.T. score been reset?

Your F.I.T. score is reset each time you complete your six week training program or you manually change your training program.

Why are my F.I.T. points not increasing?

You may not be using your device frequently enough, or you may not be increasing the intensity to a level that produces a significant score. To improve your F.I.T. points score, you can perform more sessions, increase the average intensity during a session or try a more powerful toning program to improve your results. You can find the descriptions of the toning programs in the Programs section.

Can I see the history of my F.I.T. score?

You can find the history of your F.I.T. score in the Progress section.

What does the progress screen show?

The Progress screen shows an overview of your toning progress versus the recommended targets for the program you are in. You can view your latest session data, weekly session scores and your overall program progress. Scrolling left and right will allow you to review your specific historical data for the current training program.

Getting Started

What does the sensation feel like?

When you start to increase the intensity you will feel a mild pulsing sensation, followed by a gradual tightening of the abdominal muscles. The muscles should contract smoothly, hold themselves in a tensed position for a few seconds and gently relax again, just like when you are completing a normal muscle contraction.

You can control the intensity of the muscle stimulation via the Slendertone Connect Controller on your belt or through the Slendertone Connect App on your smart device.

What intensity should I use?

A definitive recommended intensity does not exist – each person will have their own suitable training level or intensity they should work at. The simple advice is that you should select an intensity that maintains your comfort but is suitably challenging. We advise that you turn the intensity to the maximum level you feel comfortable with. We recommend you gradually increase the toning intensity during each session.

How do I set toning reminders?

Tap your name at the top of the app to open your profile. Here you can set toning reminders in your calendar. For best results we recommend you complete at least four or five toning sessions per week but you can choose to do more or less sessions depending on your lifestyle.

How do I know if my Controller/Belt is in pairing mode?

In pairing mode you will hear the controller beep continuously (once every second) and the blue LEDs will flash more rapidly than normal.

How do I know what model my device is?

On the back of your device you will see the model number, it begins with a letter followed by a set of digits. All of the devices listed below are compatible with Slendertone Connect.

Product Troubleshooting

What if my phone battery dies during a session?

If your phone battery dies, you can control your Slendertone Connect via the Controller on your belt.

The – button decreases intensity.

The + button increases intensity.

Press the central Slendertone power button once to pause the session.

Hold down the central Slendertone power button to turn off the Controller.

Only remove the belt when the Controller is off.

Your Slendertone Connect Controller will save up to ten sessions. Your app will be automatically updated once the connection is restored.

We will send you regular emails to keep you updated on your progress.

Why are my waist muscles exercising but not my stomach muscles?

Check that the position of the square gel pad is centered over your belly button. Alternatively move the belt down slightly. If this doesn't help, move the oval gel pads to a smaller size setting and/or increase the intensity.

It is normal that the stimulation in your center does not feel as strong as the stimulation of your side muscles. All your muscles will be working. As you continue to increase the intensity you will feel the stimulation in all your abdominal muscles.

How do I know if my Controller/Belt is in pairing mode?

In pairing mode you will hear the controller beep continuously (once every second) and the blue LEDs will flash more rapidly than normal.

The Controller is on but there is no stimulation. I can't feel anything.

You may need to increase the intensity to feel a stronger stimulation. To increase the toning intensity, go to the Tone screen, start your toning session and move the toning intensity circle upwards. The higher you slide the circle, the more you will feel the toning intensity increase. You can move the circle back down to decrease the intensity level.

You can also use the buttons on your Controller: press the “+” button to increase and the “–“ button to decrease the intensity.

The contractions are very weak even when the intensity is high.

This may be the result of worn gel pads. We recommend replacing your gel pads after twenty to thirty sessions. This is to ensure the stimulation remains comfortable and effective and you get the most out of your Slendertone Connect. You can order replacement gel pads here

My Controller will not charge.

The USB cable may be faulty or connected to a source that is not able to provide the charge level required.

Plug the USB cable into a different USB port on your PC or plug the USB into a wall adaptor capable of at least 500mA. Alternatively you can try another standard micro-USB cable. If none of the above solves your issue, please contact the customer care team.

Always try to use the USB cable supplied. You can buy a replacement USB cable on Slendertone.com

My Controller/battery keeps beeping when charging.

This may happen if your battery has been severely depleted. To solve this; disconnect the controller from the power source and then reconnect it. The beeping should stop.

If the beeping continues, leave the controller connected to the power source for 5 minutes, while beeping, then remove the USB and reinsert it once more.

The Controller keeps beeping.

This may be due to a number of factors:

Before removing your belt to troubleshoot ensure the controller is switched off.

a) Ensure your battery is fully charged.

b) The Controller may not be properly connected to the belt. Push the Controller into the holster until it is flush to ensure it is fully in place.

c) The plastic covers may still be on the gel pads: ensure the plastic covers have been removed from the gel pads on both sides.

d) The metal contacts under the gel pads need to be cleaned: Use a dry cloth to clean the metal studs as there can be a build-up of gel.

e) The gel pads may be placed incorrectly: Ensure the gel pads have the grid patterned side in contact with the studs.

f) The gel pads are worn and may need to be replaced: You can purchase new gel pads here (insert link to pads) or contact your local retailer.

If the fault persists, your gel pads may be worn. You can purchase new gel pads here.

The Controller powered off unexpectedly during a session and my exercise data was not saved.

If you start a session with a low battery there may not be enough power remaining to complete the workout. In this case the Controller may power off unexpectedly and your session data will be lost.

To avoid this occurring, always ensure that you do not have a low battery warning before the session begins and charge your Controller if required.

If you experience a low battery during a session you can save the details for a partial workout by powering off the Connect Controller through the app or on the Controller itself. When you next power on the device your app will display the details for that session.

On the App a low battery condition is indicated by the battery icon turning red.

On the Controller the battery icon will flash amber and you will receive two beeps to draw your attention to the battery condition.’

The Controller does not switch on when the power button is pressed.

It is likely that the battery is depleted.

Recharge the battery fully until the battery LED is green. If the charging light does not immediately light try using a different charging source or leave the Controller to charge for an extended period (e.g. six to eight hours).

If the problem persists call the Customer Care Team for further assistance.

When the Controller is turned on the amber LED is flashing.

Your battery is low.

Recharge the battery fully until the battery LED is green.

I have a flashing yellow LED and beeping while using my product.

This may be due to a number of factors:

My Controller sometimes fails to connect to the App.

The link between the Controller and the App is based on radio signals using the Bluetooth Low Energy messaging system. As with all wireless systems, interference can sometimes reduce the connection reliability and some messages may not get processed correctly. The best advice is to simply attempt to connect to the device again. If you frequently experience connection issues, please contact our Customer Care Team.

Pairing and Syncing

If I uninstall the app and reinstall it do I need to pair again?

Yes. Every time you install the app, you will be prompted to go through the belt pairing section before you can start toning with your app. By using your existing log-in details you will not have to go through the registration process and motivation selection again. You must also “forget” the Slendertone Controller in the Bluetooth section of iOS settings to restart the pairing process.

The App is not connecting to my Controller.

Unlike other Bluetooth accessories such as a car radio, or headsets, your Slendertone Connect Controller must be paired through the Official App, not through the Settings on your phone.

1) Ensure the Bluetooth radio is enabled on your smart device.

2) Follow the pairing process in the official app.

3) Ensure you do not have out-of-date paired information on your Smart Device or Controller. This may happen if you have more than one Controller or you paired your Controller with another Smart Device. The Controller is only permitted to pair with one device at a time. To “forget” previous paired information, go to the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or iPad and select to “Forget this device”. Alternatively in your Connect App settings, Select “Unpair Controller”.

Product Questions

Can I make my Connect abs belt controller compatible with multiple devices?

Yes, however we recommend only syncing your controller with a single smart device. Switching between different devices can skew your toning history and F.I.T. Points. Session data, for example, may be recorded on one device but may not appear in the toning history of your other device.

What intensity should I use?

The simple advice is that you should select an intensity that maintains your comfort but is suitably challenging. We advise that you turn the intensity to the maximum level you feel comfortable with. We recommend you gradually increase the toning intensity during each session.

Can I use the product after having a baby?

Our specialized Post Natal program is a great way to firm up your tummy after pregnancy.

Please wait a minimum of six weeks after natural childbirth (or three months after a caesarean section) before you begin using the Slendertone Connect belt. We advise you seek approval from your doctor prior to use.

Can I use the belt while exercising?

This combined approach is likely to deliver even better results as your muscles are working harder whilst doing a voluntary workout as well as working via EMS (electrical muscle stimulation). We advise doing gentle exercises such as walking or Pilates and using an intensity that is slightly lower than what you are used to. The combined approach will be tougher on your abs during your workout.

If using Slendertone Connect whilst doing sit ups, we recommend that you complete the sit up when you feel the stimulation coming on.

Can I use my Slendertone Connect on multiple devices?

Our batteries are designed to last years, but if you do experience a degradation of your battery performance we recommend you contact our customer care team. Slendertone Connect batteries cannot be replaced.

Please do not attempt to open the Controller as this will void your warranty.

Pause the program and reposition the central square gel pad slightly higher on your stomach. If this doesn't help, move the two oval gel pads to a larger size setting on the belt (away from the central square gel pad).

Why do I experience an unpleasant feeling beneath the gel pads?

There may be poor gel pad contact with your skin.

Make sure the controller is OFF first. You can do this by pressing the Slendertone power button on your controller for three seconds.

Remove the belt.

Remove the gel pads.

Wipe the metal studs with a dry cloth.

Replace the gel pads ensuring the metal studs are covered.

Put the belt back on and switch on the controller.

Another reason for the unpleasantness could be that the gel pads may need to be replaced. We recommend replacing your gel pads after twenty to thirty sessions; this is to ensure the stimulation remains comfortable, effective and that you get the most out of your Slendertone Connect belt. Can’t feel any stimulation from the middle pad?

If you just started using a Slendertone belt for the first time you are probably using it at a low intensity (under 30). It is quite normal that you would feel more stimulation at the side (oblique muscles) than in the middle (abdominal muscle) as we use our abdominal muscles every day and they are not as sensitive as the oblique muscles. You should select an intensity level which is comfortable but suitably challenging and continue to increase the intensity as you progress through your six-week programme to maximise your workout. As you increase the intensity you will start to feel the stimulation in your abdominal muscle.

Why do I feel a tingling sensation in my legs?

A tingling sensation in your legs indicates that the gel pads are over your hip-bones.

Moving the two oval gel pads upwards and inwards on your waist (i.e. towards the center of your body) should prevent this.

Remember to pause or switch off your Slendertone Connect Controller before adjusting the belt or gel pads. You can do this by pressing the Slendertone Connect power button on your controller once to pause and hold it for three seconds to switch off.

How can I increase the intensity of my toning session?

In the toning screen within the app, slide the intensity level circle upwards to increase the intensity or downwards to decrease it.

On your Controller, you can increase the intensity with the + button and decrease with the - button.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The battery will take a minimum of three hours to charge. A constant green light on your controller will indicate then the battery is full.

How do I control a toning session?

Slide the intensity level circle on your toning screen upwards to start your toning session. You can control the intensity by sliding the circle up or down. To pause a session, press the pause button. To stop a session, select the “Stop” button when the session is paused.

You can also use the buttons on your Controller. Press the + button to increase the intensity, the - button to decrease the intensity and the Slendertone power button will pause (press once) or stop a session (press and hold for three seconds until you hear the tone).

Where can I see my toning progress information?

You can see your toning progress information in the Progress section within the app.

We will also email you regularly with an update on your personal progress.

What does my progress screen tell me?

This displays an overview of your overall toning statistics to date.

We will send you regular emails to keep you updated on your progress.

How do I change a toning program?

Select Programs from the navigation menu on the left. Here you will see a list of available toning programs with an explanation of each. You can select a new toning program by tapping on the program and selecting Start program. Please note that by selecting a new toning program, your progress stats will be reset.

Can I use different programs?

You can select any program you wish at any time, but it’s important to note that your F.I.T. points will reset on each program change. We recommend that you complete one program completely before moving to the next to get the best results and to monitor your progress more accurately.

Which program should I use?

You can choose a different program depending on your motivation or toning need. Each program varies in stimulation levels, toning power or number of contractions. You can find a description of each toning program in the Programs section of the app.

What happens when I close the program during a session?

If you close the app during a session your toning stimulation will continue if you have enabled the function “Allow uninterrupted toning” in the Settings menu. If you have not enabled this option, the toning stimulation will stop when the app is closed or the smart device moves out of range of the Controller.

When the app is closed you can control the toning stimulation via the intensity (+ and -) buttons on your Controller.

What happens if I go out of range of my phone?

Your product will still work and can be controlled through the + and – intensity buttons on your Controller. If you want to pause or stop a session press the Slendertone power button in the center of the Controller. At the end of the session your Controller will switch off automatically. Ensure your Controller is off before removing your belt.

How do I pair my Controller with my smart device?

When you pair your Controller and your Smart Device, (i.e. iPhone or iPad), your app will guide you through the process.

If you wish to know more, the full steps are listed below:

Start the app and switch on the Controller when prompted.

Once the app detects that you have powered on your Controller, it will request you to hold the ‘-‘ button (decrease intensity button) for five seconds or until you hear a beep.

The beeping will continue while the Controller is in this pairing mode and the blue LEDs in the center will flash quickly.

When the app discovers the Controller in pairing mode it will display a confirmation screen with the last four digits of the serial number of the Controller it has discovered. Look at the last four digits of serial number on the back of your Controller. They should match the four numbers shown on your app screen. If they match, choose “Confirm”.

If the serial numbers do not match then it is likely that there is another Controller in the vicinity that is also in pairing mode. You can select “Not mine” to start another search.

Lastly, you will receive a prompt to confirm that you wish to “pair” the two devices. You must accept this prompt to complete the process. You’re ready to tone!

Why does my serial number not appear?

If the serial numbers do not match then it is likely that there is another Controller in the vicinity that is also in pairing mode. You can select “Not mine” to start another search. If the problem persists, please contact our customer care line.

If no serial number appears at all you need to put your Controller into pairing mode: turn your Controller on, and then press and hold the “-“button on the Controller for five seconds.

How do I change my toning program?

To select a new training regime, navigate to the menu in your app, select “Programs” and review the program summaries. When you are ready to try the new program, select the appropriate button and then press “Start Program”. The App will download the new treatment to the Controller when it is next powered on.

It is not possible to download a new treatment if you are already in a treatment session. The download will occur when you next power on your Controller.

Please note that by choosing a new program, your progress statistics and F.I.T. score will reset to zero on the progress screen in the app. Your historical data will still be accessible from Slendertone.com.

How do I reset my toning plan?

You cannot reset the sessions you have completed or restart your program. When you change your training program your F.I.T points automatically return to zero and the number of sessions completed for that specific program also resets to zero.

How do I sync unsaved toning session to the App?

The Controller will save up to 10 sessions locally if the app is not available, otherwise it will update the app each time the two are used together.

We recommend you sync with each toning session to ensure you track all your toning progress and receive toning tips and progress information to help you achieve your toning goals.

How do I add or delete a toning reminder?

Tap your profile picture in the navigation menu and open the Reminders section. You will be asked to choose times and days you wish to be reminded on.

How do I change my profile details?

You can change your personal details in the app. Tap on your name at the top of your App to enter your profile. Tap Edit to change your details.
